Copyright, Licensing & Image Information

Historical Image Sources

The photographs featured on OKRetro.au are sourced primarily from public archival collections, including the State Library of New South Wales and the State Library Victoria, along with other recognised historical archives.

These institutions make many historical photographs available for public use and provide licensing information for each image. We carefully review each photograph before publication and only use images that are identified as being in the public domain, copyright-free, or otherwise approved for commercial use under the terms provided by the source archive.

Where requested by the source archive, appropriate acknowledgement is provided.

Copyright Disclaimer

OKRetro.au makes every reasonable effort to verify the copyright status, licensing conditions, and usage rights of all photographs offered for sale.

Historical archives occasionally update records, metadata, or copyright information. If you believe an image displayed on this website infringes copyright, contains incorrect attribution, or should not be reproduced, please contact us immediately with supporting information so the matter can be investigated and addressed promptly.

We respect the rights of photographers, archives, estates, and copyright holders and will take appropriate action where required.

"The inclusion of an image on OKRetro.au does not imply ownership of the original photograph or archival record. Ownership and stewardship of original materials remain with the respective archive, institution, photographer, estate, or rights holder where applicable."

Image Quality & Authenticity

The photographs offered by OKRetro.au are historical images that are often more than 70 years old.

While many images have been carefully restored and optimised for printing, some photographs may still contain minor imperfections that are inherent to the original source material. These may include:

  • Film grain

  • Dust marks

  • Scratches

  • Light spotting

  • Exposure variations

  • Archive-related wear and ageing

These characteristics are part of the photograph's historical authenticity and do not generally affect the overall quality, presentation, or enjoyment of the finished print.

Acknowledgements

OKRetro.au gratefully acknowledges the valuable work of Australia's public archives, libraries, museums and historical institutions in preserving the nation's photographic heritage.

In particular, we acknowledge the State Library of New South Wales and State Library Victoria, whose archival collections have helped make many historically significant photographs accessible to researchers, historians, businesses and the wider public.

These institutions play an essential role in preserving Australia's visual history for future generations. We thank them for their ongoing commitment to digitisation, conservation and public access to historical collections.

Where required, we endeavour to provide appropriate acknowledgement of the original source archive and comply with any published usage requirements associated with the images.
